Dear Richard,
I appreciate the work you have done. It seems to be exemplary in using
right reason to establish a balanced view on sexuality in the
priesthood.
My only concern is the exclusive use of the word "homosexual" and rarely
"bisexual."
As you know, according to the APA and other mainstream mental health
professional associations, bisexuality is a distinct and genuine sexual
orientation.
Many people assume that whatever policies are in place for homosexuals,
also work for bisexuals.
That is not the case. Bisexuals of faith face some unique pastoral
problems. Since most churches, including the Catholic Church, never use
the word "bisexual," there can be a great feeling of isolation.
I can testify that there are no pastoral resources for bisexual
Christians, including Catholics, who want to live according to
traditional sexual and marital norms. Deo gratias, I have worked out my
own way to live consistently according to traditional sexual morality.
But it was a long, hard and lonely process. |
